The interest rate for credit cards is now approaching just under 30%, which to most Americans is an absolute outrage. Another way to do this is online, as most credit card companies will list their offers and take your application on their website.
Does that sound like a great deal? Actually it is a great deal and if you are carrying balances on credit cards that you are struggling just to pay the interest on this may be the way to get your credit cards paid down.
If your credit is good and if you qualify for these new 0% credit cards get one and immediately transfer all of the balances from your high interest cards to the new one. Then, take all the money that you are now using to pay interest and pay on the principle of the new card. You’ll be amazed at how much the balance will decrease in 12 months.
How to evaluate transfer credit card offers
Step one. Make sure you understand the new credit card offer because not all offers of 0% credit cards are the same.
Step two. Check the duration of the 0% offer. Most will offer 6 to 12 months at 0% and then the interest rate will go back to “normal”.
Step three. Check the penalties involved. Almost every one of these offers will include a clause that will outline a penalty that will occur should you be one minute late with your payment. In most cases you’ll be sad to find out that if you are late the interest rate will go up to as high as 29% and in some cases can even be retroactive.
