9 Disadvantages of Working From Home Jobs

So you would like to have a working from home job? Well, these jobs are available and you will find lots of them described in articles on this site but keep in mind that it is not always easy to work a job from home. There are many advantages to having a job that you can work from home, including no expenses incurred commuting back and forth, flexible hours and the ability to work for more than one employer simultaneously. It is my humble opinion, that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages but the disadvantages do need to be taken into consideration before you start your new job in your home office.

Disadvantages of working from home jobs include:

1. Interruptions from children. Even though you may have a firm closed-door policy and a large do not disturb sign, understand that with small children in the house  interruptions will occur so if you understand this and are able to deal with it your job will be much easier. Take a chill pill and don’t stress. It’s not going to help.

2. Learning to budget your time to ensure that you have both adequate time for your job and time for your family.

3. Getting children and other family members to understand that there are times when you absolutely cannot be interrupted.

4. The concern that your customers and coworkers might discover that you work from home and may think that you are not professional enough.

 5. Running the risk of confusing professional relationships with personal issues.

 6. The lack of support staff to help you with administrative tasks.

7. The lack of office equipment. You can only have so much office equipment in your home office.

8. Keeping yourself disciplined and focused on the task at hand when you know that no one is watching you.. Make a list each day of tasks that need to be accomplished and stay on the list.

9. No companionship with coworkers. I have kept my office in my home for years and have enjoyed it, but one thing I do miss is the socialization found in an office environment. I miss talking about current events, football games, and what I did on my last vacation. I sit down in my home-based office after a wonderful weekend and I have no one to tell about it.

Jimmy says; working a job from home can be a wonderful lifestyle, but it does have its disadvantages.  None of which cannot be overcome if you are disciplined, focused and determined to succeed.
