Jimmy loves vans. When I was in the car business a few years ago I actually sold 50 new conversion vans in a six-month period. I even made a trip down to Elkhart, Indiana to the factory that did our conversions. The way this works is we would drop ship new Ford vans to the conversion factory and they would install the conversion package and then drive the vans up north to Wausau, Wisconsin where we would sell them.

My customers would always ask me what about insurance. The truth of the matter is vans come in all sizes all shapes, all styles and all prices. With this in mind your insurance cost will also greatly vary.

You can well imagine that if you have a new van, which cost over $100,000, that you’re going to pay a pretty penny for the insurance. If you have a small cargo van to haul around your sound equipment, like our sound engineer at church does, your insurance rates will be about the same as for normal car.

Also another consideration is that if your van is used for your business as a delivery vehicle, you’re going to have extra insurance costs on it particularly if different people are driving it.

Something that will lower your insurance costs, is if your van is just used for recreation and sits at home most of the time, therefore it would qualify as a low mileage vehicle.

If you have a new conversion van which you pay a lot of money for, it would be a good idea to get comprehensive insurance coverage.

If your van is an older model and just used to haul around things then probably liability insurance would be your cheapest option.

Of course keep in mind that your driving record, your age, your occupation and the area where you live also has a big effect on your van insurance cost.

Also, there are companies out there that specialize in selling insurance policies for conversion vans so it would be a good idea to go online and find these and then get quotes from at least from five different companies before you make your decision
