Credit card debt is a trap that many American people have fallen into.
The credit card companies make it so easy to pick out something that you like, perhaps a new exercise machine, or big-screen TV or even a new computer with all the bells and whistles then just hand the cashier a piece of plastic and not have to worry about paying it for years.
All you have to do is make what they call a minimum payment, which does very little toward paying off the balance. Now the trap has been set, if you make these payments for a few months they will raise your limit and now you can buy more stuff and the minimum payment will only go up a few dollars each month. How nice.
So you get to the point where your credit card limit is cut off and now the only thing you have to worry your pretty little head about is the payments, which have come with a high interest rate even up to 29.9%.
If your debt now seems insurmountable. You can do one of two things.
Declare bankruptcy.
This should be a last resort as this will stay on your credit rating for up to seven years and will respect your ability to buy a new home, or car, or any other high-priced items on credit.
Consolidate your credit cards and pay them off.
This is not as hard as you might think because there are 0% credit cards available out there which you can use to transfer the balance of all your other credit cards.
Apply for one of the 0 credit cards and if accepted, transfer the balance of all your cards to this new card and then make the same payment equal to the amount you are paying on all of your other credit cards until everything is paid for. Which, as a matter of fact is not hard because now you are paying on the balance and set it on a high interest rate.
