A credit score is the number used by lenders to gauge how likely a person is to repay outstanding loans. These scores are generated by a mathematical formula that has been put together by using all the available credit report information.

There are many different scoring formulas for different evaluation purposes and the credit scores that you view online may not all be the same because the scores that the lenders use are coming from different places.

How credit score is determined

1. Payment history is your history of making the payments on your loans on time.

2. Outstanding debt. Lenders always want to know how extended you are in your credit because if you are overextended your chances of getting a loan are greatly reduced. A process known as debt to credit ratio formulates this.

3. Another formula also use is debt to income ratio which is very important because this tells the lenders whether or not you would be able to financially make payments on your new loan. No lender wants to lend you money that they know it’s going to be impossible for you to pay back.

4. Credit history. Lenders want to know what is your history. How many loans you have had how many you have paid off and how you performed with those loans.

5. Credit account balances. This is your ratio of credit to credit available. Another word is how much you owe on your credit cards and how much credit you have available. Lenders like to see a lot of available credit, which is not being used because it shows wisdom in as much as you have money available that you’re not using.

6. Credit scores will determine whether you are approved for loans but also determine what interest rate you pay on those loans.

7. The higher your credit score the more likely you are to get a loan and the lower your interest rate will be when you do get that loan.
