If you have been denied credit, or insurance or even employment because of any information, which has been supplied by a credit bureau FCRA says that the company you apply too must give you the bureau’s name address and telephone number. You’re allowed to contact the agency for a copy of your report within 60 days of receiving a denial notice and the report is supposed to be free.

3. Check your credit report and if you find any errors contact the credit bureau and the organization that provided the information to the bureau.

4. Many times when you contact organization that has put inaccurate credit information out to the bureaus they will correct this information and report back to the bureau so your credit report can be straightened out without you having to do much of anything.

5. After this correction has been made is up to you to review your credit report in a few weeks and make sure that the changes have been implemented.

6. Another way to do this is contact your bureau with the information that you believe is not accurate and includes copies of the documents that support your position. You may want to enclose a copy of the report with the items in question circled and highlighted so that the person who reviews your letter will not have any problems distinguishing the problem area. Send your letter by certified mail.

7. Credit bureaus are mandated to reinvestigate the items in question and usually within 30 days. After the information provider receives notice of the dispute from the credit bureau you must investigate and review all relevant information that has provided a credit bureau report result. Many times this will clear up any inaccuracies.

8. After this is occurred any dispute information will be deleted from your file.

9. Any disputed information that cannot be verified but also be deleted from your file

10 If you’re now current on all of your bills the credit bureau must show that you are current.
