Is photography a hobby with you and do you like animals? If the answer to both of those questions is yes, you could make a very good living taking photographs of pets.
For the purpose of this article we are going to assume that you already have photography equipment. Most people who have photography as a hobby do already have a lot of equipment.
How to get started
The same way that you get to Carnegie Hall, by practicing. Photograph your pets and the pets of your family and friends and put together a portfolio, which you will need to market your work.
Also, take photographs of the pet owners with their pets, as this will be a large part of your business. People love to have their pictures taken with their pets. Jimmy does.
Can I work from home?
If you have a spare room that you could turn into a studio people will be more than happy to come to your house. Much of your business however will be done in the client’s home.
How much should I charge?
Prices vary depending upon the area but the average client will generally pay about $500 and of course that depends on the package that the client orders. You can quickly see that if you do two jobs per week that type of money that can be made. When you get to the point where you are working every day you can make a lot of money.
Find other pet photographers around the country and call them and ask them how much they charge that will give you an idea where to start.
How to find clients
Put a small ad in the phonebook under photography, which says, pet photography, low rates and your cell phone number.
Get magnetic signs for the side of your car, which says, pet photography, low rates and your cell phone number.
Depending on the local zoning ordinances you may be able to put out signs on the poles and along the road.
You will soon be busy.
