Flying for less is not difficult if you will just take a little time and start several weeks before your trip.

A friend of mine booked a flight from Melbourne, Florida to Seattle, Washington and then called and asked me if I thought he got a good price. I just happened to have my computer on and within three minutes found that he had paid $200 too much. I didn’t have the heart to tell him because he had already booked it and it was now too late. I just told him, call me next time before you do anything. He must have gotten the message because the next time he came over and I booked his flight for him.

 There are ways to save money on flights, but calling the airlines on the phone is usually not one of them. I have used the Internet for years to book all my travel arrangements as I sometimes travel a lot for speaking engagements and the savings really add up.

 I have found that the best time for me, and this may sometimes differ, has been to book a trip about three weeks before planning to go. The airlines have all cut back on their number of  flights so that they can fly airplanes that are full of people.

 I use several different websites to book flights and have found that the prices will often times vary, depending on a number of circumstances. I have also found out the hard way, that when you do find a good price for a trip, book it now. I have sometimes gone back to the same website the next day and found a $40 difference on the flight. Ouch.

 Tips for booking low priced airfare:

 Check out at least three sites and if you do not feel that you have a good price go back the next day and try it again.

 Many times you can get a better price between 10 PM and midnight as the airlines are trying to close out their days and after midnight the prices may change.

 Southwest and Jet Blue will charge different prices for each leg of the trip. Check different websites and get your best price for each leg. You don’t have to book the whole trip on one website.

 Start checking prices four weeks before your trip and make sure you are booked at least two weeks in advance.
