Many times people will get their credit report totally free 3 times per year and not even know how to read it.
The first thing to understand is that credit scores are usually between 500 and 900 points and that is a number that is assigned to a customer’s credit profile when it is reviewed. This is called the FICO, which is a system that was developed by Fair Isaac & Company.
The system that is used to create a credit score takes all different types of information into account. Suffice it to say that credit scores are based upon your past and current financial history. If you pay all your obligations on time according to the agreed terms you’re going to have a high credit score.
Other things that factor into the credit score are number of inquiries and the debt to income ratio.
A credit score below 600 is considered bad and any score over 750 is good.
Another thing many people do not understand is if you are denied credit for any reason the lender must notify you in writing of the name and contact information of the agency which provided the information on which they base their decision.
To avoid this problem, check your credit rating ahead of time, before you apply for credit.
There are 3 credit bureaus and you can apply to each one for your credit report one time per year and this gives you 3 free credit reports per year so there is really no excuse for not keeping track of your credit report.
