If you’re in good physical shape and have a basic knack for painting you can make a very good living in the house painting business.
Startup costs
Less than $200 and you can operate out of your home if you have some extra room in your garage because you can have your office at home.
Equipment you will need
You can start with some rollers, pans and brushes, extension poles, a fold up ladder, drop cloths, and a couple of buckets. You do not need to buy paint because your customers, at least when you’re starting your business will buy the paint.
Later on you will need to buy a compressor you will need a truck or van to haul your equipment and the paint. For now at least you can operate out of your car if you do not have a truck.
Establish a relationship with a paint store in your neighborhood and as you begin your business have your customers to go to that store to buy the paint and receive a discount.

Most newspapers have a service section so just put an ad in there, which reads house painting, low rates and your cell phone number.

If you’re going to hire workers you will have to apply for workers compensation. You may want to do most of the work yourself to begin with. You can actually make a very good living working on your own and doing the painting yourself without ever hiring anyone. However if your business grows you may want to hire crews and spend all of your time booking the jobs. Now you are talking big money.
