Mystery shopping is a job where people pose as regular customers in order to evaluate the services of a business, retail stores, financial institutions, gas stations and restaurants, especially restaurants.
Mystery shoppers are used to evaluate areas such as customer service, product quality, how they were treated when checking out or returning a product, attitude of employees, how long it took them to get waited on, product knowledge of the employees and cleanliness of the store, as well as other areas.
Mystery shopping is a great job for somebody who works from home. Shoppers can pick their hours, work in their free time and earn a supplemental income doing something they love to do, shop. Experience is not needed as the companies will tell you what they are looking for and quickly train you on how to act and how to file reports.
Another advantage of being a mystery shopper is that you can work for more than one company at the same time and you can find these companies who employ shoppers, online. You will be asked to fill out an application, be interviewed and go through a short training program by each company that you work for. Every company has their own idea of what they want the mystery shoppers to be doing and how they want the reports or forms filled out.
Qualifications are the ability to shop (duh), organizational skills, patience, good communication and writing skills. You will need access to a fax machine and many of the forms that you fill out will be done online and e-mailed to your employer so you will need a computer and access to the Internet.
You will be required to complete assignments on schedule. The more dependable you are the more assignments you will get. At the beginning of your career, be willing to take last-minute assignments and be ready take whatever you can get. As you successfully complete assignments your business will grow.
