If you are computer savvy and have a basic understanding of how websites and blogs work and are willing to learn you can a very good living raising funds for charities online and helping people at the same time.

There is much to be learned if you are interested in fundraising but below are a list of steps to get you started.

Step 1.  Make sure you are registered with all of the proper authorities and in some cases licensed as a fundraiser.

Step 2.  Understand that fundraising is a business and large charities are big business and if you have trouble with this concept, fundraising is not the business for you.

Step 3.  Put together a list of charities or nonprofit organizations to raise funds for. Another idea would be to find an orphanage or a soup kitchen in your local area, which feeds the homeless.

Step 4.  Set up a website, or a combination website/blog as your main vehicle to raise funds. I would prefer the blog but that’s because I like to blog. Blogging is a form of Internet communication between the person who owns the website and their readers. In the case of fundraising a website or a blog would be used to communicate the need for funds.

It is always a good idea to have professional people set up your website or blog and this can be done rather inexpensively. Get some ideas about websites and blogs by typing the word fundraising into the search engines and then look at other people’s websites and blogs. Take a couple weeks doing this in order to get a good idea of what’s involved and what you would like to do.

Step 5.  Optimize your website or blog so that people can find it. You can have the greatest website or blog in the world but if nobody finds it you will get no results. Many times a website designer who sets up your site for you can help you with optimization.

Step 6.  Start writing articles and content for your website describing the charity, organization or orphanage that you are raising funds for. Learn how to insert photographs and videos of the orphanages and people that you want to help, as it really is true that a picture is worth 1000 words, especially in fundraising.

Step 7.  Provide updates and show before and after pictures of people who’ve been helped by your efforts.

Step 8.  Get a credit card merchant account and add a donation button to your website. Put the button up high on each page so people can see it. Let people know they will get a receipt for their donation so that they can use it  for tax purposes.
