Be a Physician Recruiter From Home

By

$60k plus unlimited income working as a Physician recruiter from home helping doctors find jobs.

Recruiting physicians and placing them in good jobs from home can be a very rewarding occupation. I did this job myself, working from home for several years and enjoyed it immensely. I spent my days talking to doctors who were looking to me to find them a job. As a group, physicians are very nice people. However, as with any group of people there are exceptions.

Step number one. Familiarize yourself with medical terminology. This was easy for me as I was a medic when I was in the Air Force and many members of my family work in the healthcare field as nurses.

Step number two. Take the time to learn about what doctors do. Most physicians specialize in a certain area of medicine. Learn the difference between what internal medicine physicians do and what cardiovascular surgeons do and learn how to talk to both of them about what they do and in some cases how they do it. Learn the difference between an interventional cardiologist and a non-interventional cardiologist as hospitals and medical practices employed both specialties.

The job order is what the hospital or medical practice will give you when they contract with you to recruit a physician for them. There is a lot of competition for job orders.

Now you must find the right physician to fill the job order. This is the hard part. The right physician is someone who is looking for a job, willing to relocate, and will work for the salary that the hospital or medical center is willing to pay.

Advertising for physicians in medical journals is a good idea as all doctors read medical journals.

Start a website and list your job openings. Many physician recruiters do this because it works and doctors will find your website.

If all else fails, try to find a physician’s home phone number and leave him a message that you have a job opening in a certain area of the country and tell him that if he or she is interested to please call you. Do not leave messages on their office phones, as physicians rarely check the messages themselves and that is a message their staff will definitely not pass on. If the staff thinks their doctor is being recruited that Doctor will be insulated. Medical staffs are always on the lookout for recruiters who are trying to steal their doctor.

Once you have made contact with a physician who is interested in looking for a job have him or her e-mail you a CV (resume) and then you can forward it to your clients with whom you have a contract in place. Never forward a physicians CV to anyone unless you have a job order contract signed or they can hire your physician and you will not get paid.

If the client is interested in the physician arrange for a visit. The client will almost always pay the expenses for the visit but you must do the arranging.

Tell the physician how to dress and how to act during the visit. Do not be shy. I can not begin to tell you how many job opportunities are lost because the doctor was not dressed right and asked the wrong questions, such as how long do I have to work here before I can take a vacation? Rumpled, unshaven, outspoken and gruff doctors are cute on television shows but medical centers and hospitals do not like them and in most cases will not hire them. They want to hire neat and clean looking doctors who are polite and well spoken. I had no problem relaying that message to my doctors who were scheduled for an opportunity visit as my large fee was at stake.

If the hospital administrator or hiring manager is interested in hiring your physician and your physician is interested in the job it is sometimes up to you to negotiate the salary and benefits package. This you must learn how to do by experience. Many times I just let the physicians negotiate the package themselves. Some recruiters tell the physician to let them do all the negotiating but I always told the doctors that if they offer you the job while you are there go ahead and negotiate and accept it. Most of the time that is what happened and it made my life a lot easier.

Once your physician reports for their new job you get paid either a percentage of their first year salary, between 15% and 30% or a flat fee depending on what was negotiated in the job order contract.

Physician placement networks

Another thing that is very common with physician recruiters is physician placement networks where members can share the placement and share the fee.  The way it works is one member has the job order and the other member has the physician who wants the job. The doctor is place in the position and both share the fee.  I belonged to a great network and did many placements with other members.

Jimmy says, this is how physician recruiting from home works. If you are good at talking on the telephone, can sell yourself and others, are persistent and have a working knowledge of medical terminology you can do very well as a physician recruiter.
