Proofreaders are becoming more and more of a necessity with the growth of the Internet. People who own websites and blogs are very concerned about having the text in their articles look good with no misspelled words and with correct grammar.
When I got my first computer, actually my second but the first one I was able to get online with years ago the thing that appalled me was the spelling errors, the lack of capitalization, the awful grammar, poor sentence structure and the misuse of words. I made a decision even way back then that every time I sent out an e-mail or wrote an article about anything that it was going to be as good as I could do it. When Mary and I were in Bible school they taught us to do everything with excellence.
People don’t realize that they are judged by their grammar and what their letters and notes look like. I get letters all the time from preachers who want to come to my church and preach on various topics. Their e-mail to me creates a first impression. If that first impression is bad it can be very difficult to overcome.
There are many people who have great technical skills, who know a lot about a lot of subjects and have a lot to offer but they just do not know how to structure it in the form of articles and papers. Here’s where the proofreader comes in. These people are well advised to hire a proofreader and many do. A good proof reader will make the author of a book or article look and sound good.
There are companies and an increasing number of bloggers who hire proofreaders and have them work online.
Finding proofreader jobs
There are websites out there, many of which are free where you can post your resume and people who are looking for proofreaders will find you. Or you could look on some of the jobsites and find people who advertise for proofreaders.
You may be required to take a test or to submit a sample of your writing but once you make a good connection you can begin to earn money.
