Have you ever decided to take a vacation and leave in just a couple of days?
We have done that. One morning while were living in Tulsa, Oklahoma we decided to go to California and hour later we were on the road. Since this happened many years ago before we had Internet access we were forced to plan our trip as we traveled. Our planning items included a road atlas and that was it.
My how things have changed. You can plan your entire trip on the Internet including booking your flights, hotel reservations and rental cars and have everything done in less than an hour and be packing your bags.
You can find the best travel rates if you broaden your region and then search for a deal.
If you’re locked into traveling to a certain area check with three or four what I called ticket sites for the best rates.
Depending on the area you may be able to get a deal on the package. A package is when the agency will bundle airfares, hotel stays and car rentals all together for one price. It is always best however to check on these three items separately and then compare the rates.
If you’re going to a city like Las Vegas, or San Francisco or Atlantic City packages are always available and sometimes last-minute packages can be had at a better price than if you had booked your trip two weeks before leaving.
Empty seats and empty rooms are a major concern for the travel industry and can sometimes be had at the last minute for a very good price.
You can also many times book a cruise at the last minute and get very good price if they have empty cabins. Book an cabin without a window and then ask for an upgrade. Even if you do not get an upgrade you are only going to be in the cabin to sleep unless you are on your honeymoon. And if that is the case ask for the honeymoon special deal. Always remember that it is usually not a good idea to book a cruise and a flight in one package.
When booking your vacation at the last minute always remember to ask for discounts and upgrades and inquire about free sightseeing tours and make sure you get a free breakfast.
Jimmy says, getting travel discounts depends on the time of the year and scheduled events in the area to which you are going. If you’re going to New Orleans during Mardi Gras discount will not be available. However if you’re going to New Orleans in July, the deals will abound.
