A good wedding planner will earn $1,ooo and up for every wedding they do.

Mary and I used to do a lot of weddings as a matter of fact we did a wedding almost every weekend and most of those were big weddings. Mary played the music and I would do the ceremony. What an adventure that was. All the different people and all the different personalities involved. I could tell stories for hours.

With a big wedding we would usually have a rehearsal on Friday evening. I would get everybody organized, teach them how to walk down the aisle and teach everybody in the wedding party what they were supposed to do.

People would show up for the rehearsal and everyone would just stand around with no direction and nobody in charge until I would say okay here’s what were going to do. I would then tell everybody in the wedding party that I take no direction from anyone except for the bride and her mother. This way I didn’t have 20 people giving me directions at once time.

We would go through a full rehearsal two times and everybody would know what he or she was supposed to do. The next day during the wedding everything would go perfect.

The point here is that somebody needs to be in charge. If there is a wedding planner that person is in charge and will direct everything from start to finish. Mary and I always said that if there was a wedding planner involved everything would be so much easier and many people know this so they will hire a wedding planner.

Working as a wedding planner a job that you can pretty much do at home because most of your work is done on the telephone.

How to get started as a wedding planner.

1. Go online and learn as much about it as you can. You will be amazed at how much information is out there.

2. Start out by helping your family and friends plan their weddings. Most people have an idea of what they want in their wedding but they have no idea about how to go about it and having somebody help them eliminates the confusion. These people you can use later on as references.

3. Make friends with people who own bridal shops. These people will refer business to you because one of the first steps when planning a wedding is that the bride and her mother will go to bridal shops just to see what’s available.

4. Make friends with wedding photographers as you can get referral business from them and they will be eager to make your acquaintance because they know you will be calling photographers.

5. After you have some experience put together a portfolio of your experience as a wedding planner so that you will have something to show prospective clients.

6. Call local pastors and tell them you are available as a wedding planner. Many times pastors, I am speaking from experience will be talking with people for months before the wedding.

7. Have a brochure made outlining your services and different packages that you offer.

8. Have business cards made up and pass them out at weddings. Most people who are planning a wedding never even think about calling a wedding planner. If they are thinking about getting married they will save your card.

9. Go to bridal shows set up a booth and you will have plenty of people who are planning to get married to talk to.

10. Put a small ad in the yellow pages under the heading of weddings. This alone may give you enough business to keep you busy.
