Wilderness Mentality

By

Wilderness mentality.

Number 14:1-4  and all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and the whole congregation under them, is it God’s wish for us to die in a land of Egypt or that God want us to die in this wilderness? Has the Lord brought us out of this land to fall by the sword or that our wives or children should be prey. Were it not better for us to return to Egypt? They said one to another let us make us a captain and let us return to Egypt.

The children of Israel are standing by the Jordan River waiting to walk across into the Promised Land and they were afraid. The Promised Land was a land flowing with milk and honey. In other words everything they needed to live an abundant life was on the other side of the river and they were afraid to cross.

The truth of the matter is these people had a wilderness mentality what I like to call a poverty mentality. They were comfortable when they were in Egypt being slaves because everything they needed was provided for them. The only thing they did not have was freedom. When the opportunity arose for them to cross over into abundance they hesitated and were lost. Everyone over the age of 20 years died in the wilderness.

This same wilderness mentality is prevalent in the hearts of people today. Jesus said John 10:10 I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. In order to embrace this teaching of Jesus we must get rid of the wilderness mentality.

The wilderness mentality is a mentality of lack, or fear of running out, of not having enough. God is a God of abundance not a God of lack. Jesus said in Matthew 6:25 do not worry about anything. People with a wilderness mentality, worry about whether or not they will have enough.

We need to understand that God wants us to prosper and to be in health even as our soul prospers. The Bible tells us this in 3 John 2. It is never God’s will for you to be sick or poor and anybody who believes that it is, believes wrong. This is called wrong thinking and wrong thinking will destroy you because the Bible tells us that as a man thinks so he is.

Father God is a wonderful Heavenly Father. He loves us and He wants us to prosper. The Bible tells us In Ps. 27 that God takes pleasure in our prosperity. When you prosper you give God pleasure. Isn’t that wonderful and don’t you want to give God pleasure? I know I do.

Jimmy says, it took 40 years for God to get Egypt out of the hearts of the people before He could bring them into the Promised Land. Before you are going to go into the Promised Land you must also get the wilderness mentality out of your heart and begin to believe that God loves you and wants only the best for you.

Whoa Jimmy?

Wilderness mentality has been embedded in people for years and the only thing that will remove it is hearing God’s word on financial increase and if you have anything to add please share with our readers in the comments.

Many people I have spoken to over the years believe that tithing only relates to the Old Testament, and the law given to Moses. We have read that Abraham tithed to Melchizedek 500 years before the law was given to Moses, and that Jacob (Israel)tithed 250 years before Moses. Tithing is mentioned in Hebrews Chapter 7 (7:8) where Jesus is talked about as being a priest along the order of Melchizedek. The law that is written on our hearts (Heb. 8:10) is what is to guide us. I believe that we as believers, under a better covenant, are held to a higher standard, in other words we are still to obey God and not ignore his Words….ALL OF THEM. Our charity, love, etc., is not to be based upon a strict set of rules and regulations, but we cannot expect to receive if we aren’t givers. Luke 6:38, and 2 Cor. 9:6 make it pretty clear what God expects. But, please don’t give only because you expect to receive. God knows what our true motivations are and we will all have to answer to Him one day.

About the promised land….Joshua 5:12 is very poignant. As soon as the Jews reached the promised land and got out of the wilderness, they didn’t need manna. God, through his son Jesus, has already made provision for all our needs…..if we would only step out of the wilderness and into the promised land.

Whoooooa Jimmy, but even better, Whooooooooa Our Lord and Saviour!!!!!!
