I remember getting into a discussion with a counter person at a car rental company several years ago when she wanted me to get insurance for the car I was about to rent.
She told me that the price for insurance on the car was something like $35 and I said well if that is all it is I guess I’ll take it. When I got back the following week to turn in the car I found an extra $150 tacked onto my bill because the $35 she was talking about was per day and not for the total length of time that I was to have the car.
Jimmy had been deceived, and I did not like it one bit. I said okay I’ll pay the bill this time but never again will you people do that to me.

You might also check with your own credit card company because many companies will provide insurance if you use their card to pay for the rental car. This could be a benefit that you had never even heard about because who reads the fine print.
